COMTO's A View From the Hill is a series of legislative advocacy on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, bringing together legislative and industry experts to discuss relevant issues facing the transportation industry. The program begins with a legislative panel discussion and concludes with COMTO members making visits to their respective Congressional officials and representatives. These Congressional meetings serve to share COMTO's message, legislative directives, and views on the rehabilitation and revitalization of America’s transportation infrastructure. A View from the Hill ensures the continuation of COMTO’s mission of ensuring a level playing field and maximum participation in the transportation industries for minority individuals, businesses, and communities of color.

Congressional Meetings

Plan Ahead

Reach out to your elected representative's office well in advance to arrange a meeting tailored to your needs (aim for a few weeks ahead, if feasible). Many Members of Congress offer a user-friendly online form on their official government websites to initiate a meeting request.

Find Your Legislator and Schedule Your Meeting

Go to USA.Gov to find the contact information for your state and local policymakers.

Enter your home address

A list of your legislators will come up at the federal, state and local level

Go to their website and request a meeting

Provide essential details including:

Your identity
Additional attendees
The anticipated time duration (usually around 15 minutes),
The specific topic you wish to discuss.

Let them know that you’re a local constituent and a part of the COMTO View From The Hill Advocacy Day

To ensure your meeting is confirmed, take the proactive step of making a confirmation call the day before your scheduled appointment.

Be Prepared

In anticipation of your Congressional Meetings, please familiarize yourself with COMTO's 2024 Legislative Agenda. Know what points you want to make before the meeting and be prepared to answer questions or provide additional information. Bring concise written information regarding your program and its importance.

Also, learn about the policymaker and his/her priority issues, committee assignments, policy interests and community interests. Try to make a connection on how your community and the policymaker’s constituents will be affected.

Wrap up the meeting by summarizing the major points of discussion and leave behind COMTO's 2024 Legislative Agenda with your name, address and phone number.
